Making art is a form of prayer for me. I hope that these pieces help you in your prayer.

Illuminated Lectionary, Year C
Every Monday I try to make a painting to illuminate the following Sunday’s lectionary. I haven’t liked every week’s painting, and won’t present the ones I don’t like here, so there will be some weeks missing. I intend to go back and repaint the pieces for these missing weeks in future years.

Illuminated Lectionary, Year B
Every Monday I try to make a painting to illuminate the following Sunday’s lectionary. I haven’t liked every week’s painting, and won’t present the ones I don’t like here, so there will be some weeks missing. I intend to go back and repaint the pieces for these missing weeks in future years.

Illuminated Lectionary, Year A
Every Monday I try to make a painting to illuminate the following Sunday’s lectionary. I started in August of 2020, when Year A was more than half over. I haven’t liked every week’s painting, and won’t present the ones I don’t like here, so there will be some weeks missing. I intend to go back and repaint the pieces for these missing weeks in future years, when I will also add in the first two thirds of the Year A lectionary.

Illuminated Morning Prayer
When Covid began in 2020, I started painting again. Stuck at home, I wanted to illuminate the rite of Morning Prayer, since both I and my church would be using it for awhile. At first I thought that it would be only a few months of online church. Instead, an entire year past before any of us participated in a eucharist. The Rite of Morning Prayer became very important to me at that time. The images in this series are all pages in the little book I created for the rite.

Practicing the Presence of God
A few years ago, I created a series of images to accompany Brother Lawrence’s Practicing the Presence of God. I created a chapbook that contains a transliteration of the whole text of Practicing the Presence of God, and twenty-eight images. If you would like to download a copy, please click the image below. I’ve also created prayer cards with the quotes and images that I like the best. They’re meant for use during times of private devotion. In the following days I’ll be putting up separate posts featuring these cards, with some commentary.
